  • Notes 
    • Mick worked in Fords of Cork for a period before going to England, where he got a job as a seaman with the Castle Line shipping company. At the outbreak of the war, he served in the Merchant Navy, in the North and South Atlantic on board the SS LLandaff Castle. Also worked on other ships of the same fleet carrying troops from South Africa to Egypt and also made several supply runs to Uruguay in South America.
      On his return to Ireland, he joined the Irish Artillery and was stationed at Carton near Maynooth Co. Kildare. It was there he meet Maureen Dunne who was a music teacher and married in Maynooth church. He took up photography as a profession and worked for "Features Magazine" for several years before joining the Irish Press.
      He shot the publicity photos for the 1952 Hollywood movie The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.[CASSID~2.FTW]

      Martin and Alice were married by Father Michael Finegan and the witnesses to their marriage were Michael Fagan and Maud Riordan. Martin's occupation at the time was recorded as labourer Alice did not give an occupation. He was living at 117 Upper Meadow Street, Belfast, Co Antrim and Alice was living at 17 Upper Meadow Street. Her father's name was Michael McEvoy and he was a blacksmith.
