  • Notes
    • Francis was the youngest brother of my Great grandfather James Cassidy. He was baptized in St Mary's RC Church Abercromby Street on the 18th Feb 1854 by Father Richard Dunphy, godparents were Patrick Cassidy and Mary Kelly.
He was a Pawnbroker and the business flourished for over forty years. He started off as a pawnbroker's assistant and he may have been an employee of his wife's husband Matthew Thornton. However a Philip Cassidy was also in business as a Pawnbroker at the same time so Francis could have worked for either men. Around 1883 he started his own business as an outfitter. After he died in 1908 the business was run for a time by his wife Maggie and became know as "Frank P Cassidy's Pawnbroker, Jeweller and Outfitter" It was passed on to his eldest son James Buchanan Cassidy and the business then became known as "J. B Cassidy's Pawnbroker, Jeweller and Outfitters" . At one point the family owned three shops.
In the 1901 census his second son Matthew's occupation is recorded as Medical student. He also has a servant living with the family so they must have quite well off by this point. His wife Margaret or Maggie was still alive at the time of her eldest son's marriage in 1921
